Interactive Guide

Cancellation Assistant

On the Web / Desktop

1

Go to figma.com → click your team in sidebar.

2

Click Admin → Settings.

3

In the Plan section, click Cancel plan.

4

Confirm cancellation.

Advisory: Cancel Where You Subscribed

You can only stop billing on the platform you originally paid on. If you subscribed inside an app, cancelling on the website won't stop the charge — and vice versa. Watch out for retention “dark patterns” too: keep going until you see a clear “Cancellation Confirmed” screen and a confirmation email.

Refunds

How to Get a Refund From Figma If You Were Already Charged

Figma's terms of service state that payments are generally non-refundable. They do not automatically prorate refunds for cancelling mid-cycle.

If you were charged accidentally due to an unintended seat upgrade, contact Figma Support immediately via the help widget. They sometimes offer one-time courtesy refunds for accidental seat additions if reported quickly.

Charged for something you forgot?

Renew Reminder warns you up to 14 days before your next renewal — so you never have to chase a refund again.

What Happens After Cancelling Figma?

After cancelling, your Professional plan features remain active until the end of your billing period. After that, your team downgrades to the free Starter plan.

On the Starter plan, you are limited to 3 design files and 3 FigJam files. Excess files become view-only. You also lose access to advanced prototyping, Dev Mode handoff, and team libraries.

Your files and designs are completely preserved — nothing is deleted when you cancel.

Alternative Solutions

Figma Alternatives Worth Considering

Penpot (free, open-source) is the closest direct alternative to Figma for UI/UX design, built for web standards.

Adobe Creative Cloud ($22.99/mo for Illustrator or Photoshop) offers powerful vector and raster tools, though they lack Figma's real-time collaborative UI focus.

Sketch ($10/editor/mo) is a strong macOS-only UI design alternative with a solid track record.

Pre-Cancellation Review

Before You Cancel — Things to Consider

  • Only Team Admins can cancel. If you don't see the Admin or Settings tab, you do not have permission to cancel the subscription. Ask a team admin to do it.
  • Free Starter plan. Cancelling downgrades your team to the free Starter plan. You keep up to 3 collaborative design files and 3 collaborative FigJam files.
  • File preservation. If you have more than 3 files, they are not deleted. However, you won't be able to edit the extra files until you move them to your Drafts, delete other files to get under the limit, or resubscribe.
  • Review seat charges first. Often, unexpected Figma bills are caused by collaborators being upgraded to paid seats automatically. Before cancelling entirely, check Admin → Members to see if you can simply downgrade inactive users to free "Viewer-restricted" seats to reduce your bill.
