2

3

4

Click Cancel membership and confirm.

Advisory: Cancel Where You Subscribed

You can only stop billing on the platform you originally paid on. If you subscribed inside an app, cancelling on the website won't stop the charge — and vice versa. Watch out for retention “dark patterns” too: keep going until you see a clear “Cancellation Confirmed” screen and a confirmation email.

Refunds

How to Get a Patreon Refund If You Were Already Charged

Patreon does not automatically process refunds for cancelled memberships. Because the money goes directly to creators (minus Patreon's fee), refunds are at the discretion of the creator.

To request a refund, you must message the creator directly on Patreon and ask them to refund your most recent charge. Creators have the tools in their dashboard to issue refunds.

Renew Reminder warns you up to 14 days before your next renewal — so you never have to chase a refund again.

Aftermath

What Happens After Cancelling Patreon?

After cancelling, you will retain access to the creator's paid content until the end of your current billing cycle.

Once the cycle ends, you will lose access to patron-only posts, Discord roles (if applicable), and physical rewards.

If you selected the option to remain a free member, you will still receive email notifications for the creator's public, unpaid posts.

Alternative Solutions

Patreon Alternatives Worth Considering

If you want to support creators in other ways, many accept one-time tips via Ko-fi or Buy Me a Coffee.

Twitch offers $4.99/mo subscriptions for live streamers. YouTube Channel Memberships offer similar perks directly on YouTube. OnlyFans is a similar platform tailored toward adult content.

Pre-Cancellation Review

Before You Cancel — Things to Consider

  • Switch to your Member profile. If you are both a creator and a patron, you must switch to your Member profile to see your active subscriptions. You cannot cancel pledges from a creator dashboard.
  • Per-creation billing. If the creator charges "per creation" (instead of monthly), you will not be billed for any future creations, but you may receive one final charge for any paid posts released before you cancelled.
  • Free membership option. When you cancel, Patreon will ask if you want to remain a "free member." This keeps you on their email list for public posts but stops all payments.
  • Check multiple accounts. If you are still being charged after cancelling, you likely have a second Patreon account linked to a different email address (like an old Google or Apple sign-in).
