On the Web / Desktop

1

Go to account.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID.

2

Click Subscriptions in the left sidebar.

3

Click Apple News+ and then click Cancel Subscription.

Advisory: Cancel Where You Subscribed

You can only stop billing on the platform you originally paid on. If you subscribed inside an app, cancelling on the website won't stop the charge — and vice versa. Watch out for retention “dark patterns” too: keep going until you see a clear “Cancellation Confirmed” screen and a confirmation email.

Refunds

How to Get a Apple News+ Refund If You Were Already Charged

Apple does not automatically issue refunds when you cancel Apple News+ mid-cycle. Access continues until the billing period ends.

To request a refund, go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the Apple News+ charge, and select Report a Problem → Request a refund. Apple typically grants one courtesy refund per subscription, especially if requested within a few days of the charge.

If the automated system denies your request, contact Apple Support directly at apple.com/support via chat or phone.

Aftermath

What Happens After Cancelling Apple News+?

After cancelling, you retain full access to Apple News+ content until the end of your current billing period. No new magazine issues or premium articles will load after that date.

Previously downloaded and cached magazine issues may remain readable in the News app for some time after cancellation, but this is not guaranteed — Apple may remove cached content during app updates.

Your Apple News reading preferences, saved stories, and followed channels are tied to your Apple ID, not your News+ subscription. These are preserved and available in the free Apple News experience.

Alternative Solutions

Apple News+ Alternatives Worth Considering

If you primarily read news rather than magazines, the free Apple News app still provides curated articles from hundreds of sources at no cost.

For magazine-focused reading, Scribd ($11.99/mo) offers magazines alongside ebooks and audiobooks. For newspaper access, The New York Times All Access ($25/mo introductory) bundles news, games, cooking, and The Athletic.

If cost is the issue, check whether your local public library offers free digital magazine access through apps like Libby or PressReader — many do.

Pre-Cancellation Review

Before You Cancel — Things to Consider

  • Apple One Premier subscribers: Apple News+ is included in the Apple One Premier plan ($37.95/mo). If you cancel Apple One, you lose News+ along with all other bundled services. If you only want to drop News+, you must cancel Apple One entirely and re-subscribe to the individual services you want to keep.
  • Family Sharing: one Apple News+ subscription covers up to six family members. Check with family members before cancelling — they will lose access too.
  • Downloaded issues: magazine issues you have already downloaded and cached in the News app remain readable offline even after cancellation. However, new issues will stop appearing.
  • 1-month free trial: if you are still in your trial period, cancelling now prevents any charge. You keep access until the trial ends.
