Go to https://medium.com and log in to your account if prompted. Ensure you are logged into the account associated with your paid membership.
Click on your profile picture 👤 in the top right corner of the screen → Select 'Settings' ⚙️ from the dropdown menu.
On the left-hand sidebar, navigate to 'Membership' 💳.
Locate the 'Cancel Membership' button. Click this button to initiate the cancellation process.
Medium may present you with options to pause your membership or offer a discount to retain you. To proceed with cancellation, ignore these offers and look for a clear 'Continue to cancel' or similar button. Click it.
You will likely be asked to provide a reason for cancellation. Select any option or provide feedback if you wish. Then, confirm your cancellation by clicking the final 'Confirm cancellation' or 'Cancel membership' button.
You can only stop billing on the platform you originally paid on. If you subscribed inside an app, cancelling on the website won't stop the charge — and vice versa. Watch out for retention “dark patterns” too: keep going until you see a clear “Cancellation Confirmed” screen and a confirmation email.
Upon successful cancellation, your Medium membership will remain active until the end of your current monthly billing cycle. You will not be charged for the following month. After your membership expires, your account will revert to a free Medium account, and you will no longer have access to member-only content or premium features. Your profile and published stories will remain accessible.
