How to Cancel Equinox

Equinox does not offer refunds for memberships.

If you cancel, you must pay for your final notice period. The only time you can receive a refund is if you cancel within the legal "cooling-off" period (usually 3 to 5 days after initially signing the contract, depending on your state's laws).

Once your cancellation is processed, you will have to pay for the remainder of your 45-day notice period.

You are fully entitled to continue using the gym and taking classes until the end of that final paid billing cycle.

Life Time Fitness is a similarly priced luxury gym offering extensive amenities, pools, and classes.

If you just want the classes without the luxury gym price tag, consider ClassPass to drop in to various boutique studios.

• 45 Days' Notice. Equinox typically requires a 45-day written notice to process a cancellation. This means you will almost certainly be billed for at least one more month after you request to cancel.
• Initial 12-Month Commitment. If you are still within your first year of membership, you usually cannot cancel unless you have a qualifying medical reason (requires a doctor's note) or you are moving more than 25 miles away from any Equinox location (requires proof of new address).
• Keep a paper trail. Gyms are notoriously difficult to cancel. Whether you cancel via email or in person, *always* get written confirmation and keep it until you see that you are no longer being charged.
