Advisory: Cancel Where You Subscribed

You can only stop billing on the platform you originally paid on. If you subscribed inside an app, cancelling on the website won't stop the charge — and vice versa. Watch out for retention “dark patterns” too: keep going until you see a clear “Cancellation Confirmed” screen and a confirmation email.

Refunds

How to Get a Scribd Refund If You Were Already Charged

Scribd's policy states subscription fees are generally non-refundable. However, refund requests submitted within 30 days of the charge are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

To request a refund, cancel your subscription first, then contact Scribd support at support.scribd.com. Explain the reason for your request. Charges older than 30 days are generally not eligible.

If billed through Apple or Google Play, submit the refund request through that platform's support — Scribd cannot refund third-party charges.

Renew Reminder warns you up to 14 days before your next renewal — so you never have to chase a refund again.

Aftermath

What Happens After Cancelling Scribd?

After cancelling, your access continues until the end of your current billing period (except for free trial users — see above).

After access ends, your account reverts to Scribd's free tier. You can still access a limited number of documents, but ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines become inaccessible.

Your reading lists, bookmarks, highlights, and account data are preserved. If you resubscribe, everything is restored.

Alternative Solutions

Scribd Alternatives Worth Considering

For ebooks and audiobooks, Kindle Unlimited ($11.99/mo) has a larger ebook selection, though it is Amazon-exclusive. Audible ($7.95–$14.95/mo) focuses on audiobooks with a credit-based system.

For magazines specifically, Apple News+ ($12.99/mo) offers 300+ magazines and newspapers with a polished reading experience.

Your local public library likely offers free ebook and audiobook access through Libby or Hoopla — worth checking before paying for any reading subscription.

Pre-Cancellation Review

Before You Cancel — Things to Consider

  • Free trial warning: if you are on a free trial and cancel before it expires, your access ends immediately — not at the end of the trial. This is different from most subscription services that let you keep access until the trial ends.
  • Scribd/Everand branding: Scribd's book and audiobook reading platform has been rebranded as "Everand," but account management and billing still happen through scribd.com. If you search for "Everand" in your app store subscriptions, that is the same subscription.
  • Third-party billing: if you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, the Cancel button will not appear on scribd.com. You must cancel through that platform's subscription settings.
  • Annual plan: if you are on an annual plan, cancelling stops the next annual renewal. You keep access for the remainder of your paid year.
