On the Web / Desktop

1

Go to soundcloud.com in a web browser and log in to your account.

2

Click the three horizontal dots (...) in the top-right corner, then click Subscription.

3

Click the Edit pencil icon next to your active subscription.

4

Select Opt-out of your subscription and confirm.

5

Follow the remaining prompts and verify you receive a confirmation email.

Advisory: Cancel Where You Subscribed

You can only stop billing on the platform you originally paid on. If you subscribed inside an app, cancelling on the website won't stop the charge — and vice versa. Watch out for retention “dark patterns” too: keep going until you see a clear “Cancellation Confirmed” screen and a confirmation email.

Refunds

How to Get a SoundCloud Refund If You Were Already Charged

SoundCloud's official policy states that all subscription fees are non-refundable, and they do not issue partial or prorated refunds for cancellation.

If you were billed for an accidental renewal, you can submit a support ticket at help.soundcloud.com by clicking Contact Support. While they generally do not grant refunds, they may make a one-time exception if you submit the request within 24 to 48 hours of the renewal charge and have not used any subscription features or uploaded new audio since.

Do not file a chargeback with your bank or credit card company. This will cause SoundCloud to immediately terminate your account, remove all of your uploaded tracks and stats, and permanently ban your payment method.

Aftermath

What Happens After Cancelling SoundCloud?

For listeners, your SoundCloud Go or Go+ features (such as ad-free listening, offline sync, and full catalog access) remain active until the end of your current billing period. Once the cycle ends, your account reverts to the free SoundCloud tier, and your saved tracks and playlists remain intact but will be subject to ads.

For creators, your Next Pro features will continue for the remainder of your billing cycle. After that, your upload limit drops to 3 hours. Your oldest tracks exceeding this limit will become private (hidden) rather than deleted. Resubscribing in the future will restore these tracks, their statistics, and comments.

Distributed tracks on Spotify or Apple Music will be removed 30 days after your Next Pro subscription expires. You have this 30-day grace period to renew your plan to prevent your music from being taken down.

Alternative Solutions

SoundCloud Alternatives Worth Considering

For listeners seeking alternative music streaming services, Spotify ($12.99/mo) and Apple Music ($10.99/mo) offer larger libraries and better integration across smart speakers. Tidal ($10.99/mo) provides high-fidelity audio for audiophiles.

For creators looking for music distribution and hosting, DistroKid ($22.99/year for unlimited uploads) is a popular and cost-effective alternative for getting music onto streaming platforms. Bandcamp is also an excellent option for hosting music, selling merchandise, and retaining control over your earnings with no monthly fees.

Pre-Cancellation Review

Before You Cancel — Things to Consider

  • Identify your billing provider. SoundCloud subscriptions started in the mobile app are billed by Apple or Google Play, whereas website sign-ups are direct. You must cancel through the same provider that bills you.
  • Understand creator track limits. Downgrading Next Pro to a Free plan limits your account to 3 hours of uploads. SoundCloud does not delete your tracks, but your oldest uploads exceeding the 3-hour limit will be hidden from listeners.
  • Be prepared to lose distribution. If you cancel Next Pro, any music you distributed to Spotify, Apple Music, and other stores through SoundCloud for Artists will be permanently removed after a 30-day grace period.
  • Say goodbye to monetization. Tracks monetized under Next Pro will stop earning revenue 30 days after your subscription expires.
  • No proration on cancellation. Cancelling mid-cycle stops auto-renewal but does not refund unused days. Your paid access remains active until the end of the billing period.
