How to Cancel Your SiriusXM Subscription (Online, Chat & Phone)

SiriusXM's official terms state that subscription fees are non-refundable, except where required by law. Cancelling stops your next renewal but does not automatically trigger a refund for the remaining days in your current cycle.

If you were billed without authorization — for example, if a car came pre-installed with a trial that silently converted to a paid plan — you have a stronger case. Contact SiriusXM at 866-635-8641 or via the chat on siriusxm.com/contactus and ask specifically for a refund due to an unauthorized charge. Stay firm, keep a record of your chat transcript, and ask to speak to a retention supervisor if needed.

If SiriusXM refuses and the charge was genuinely unauthorized, filing a dispute with your credit card issuer is a legitimate last resort. Unlike some platforms, SiriusXM does not permanently lock accounts over chargebacks, though it may affect your ability to use that payment method with them in the future.

Your SiriusXM subscription will remain active through the end of your current billing cycle. After that, your radio and streaming access will be cut off, and no further charges will be made.

If you have an in-car satellite radio, the radio will display a "Channel Not Available" message after your subscription ends. The radio hardware itself is not affected — you can reactivate at any time by calling SiriusXM or signing up online.

Your listening history, favorites, and preferences are saved in your SiriusXM account. If you resubscribe in the future, you can log in with the same credentials and pick up where you left off.

If you primarily use SiriusXM for music, Spotify ($12.99/mo) and Apple Music ($10.99/mo) offer similar or larger music catalogs without satellite hardware requirements. Amazon Music Unlimited ($11.99/mo for Prime members) is a cost-effective option if you already pay for Amazon Prime.

For talk radio, podcasts, and news — the main reasons many people stay on SiriusXM — iHeartRadio and TuneIn Radio offer free access to live radio stations and thousands of podcasts. NPR One is also free and available on all major platforms.

• Know your billing provider. Car trial activations, dealer subscriptions, and siriusxm.com sign-ups are billed directly by SiriusXM — cancel via the website or phone. App store sign-ups (Apple or Google Play) must cancel through those platforms.
• Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date. SiriusXM requires this buffer to stop the next charge. Check your renewal date in My Account before starting.
• Expect a retention script. SiriusXM is well known for offering discounted plans to keep you. Be prepared to say no multiple times — the chat bot and any live agents are trained to make several offers before completing your cancellation.
• Consider suspending instead of cancelling (satellite radio only). If you have an in-car satellite radio plan, you can request a temporary suspension for up to 6 months at a reduced monthly hold rate. This avoids reactivation fees if you return. Streaming-only plans do not qualify for this.
• Check for a discounted retention deal. If the price is the problem, SiriusXM frequently offers long-term deals — such as 3 months for $1 — to cancelling customers. If you plan to keep using the service at a lower price, it can be worth accepting before fully cancelling.
