Billing cycles, and picking the right one
Monthly, yearly, weekly, quarterly, or a custom interval — and what each one does to your reminders.
The billing cycle tells Renew Reminder how far to jump forward after each renewal. Get it right once and the record maintains itself for as long as you keep the subscription.
| Cycle | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Weekly | Meal kits, some gym and class passes, short rentals. |
| Monthly | Most streaming, software, and app subscriptions. |
| Quarterly | Insurance, some utilities, hobby boxes. |
| Yearly | Domains, antivirus, Prime-style memberships, annual software. |
| Custom | Anything on an interval the presets do not cover — every 6 weeks, every 18 months. |
Give annual charges more notice
A yearly renewal is the one most worth catching, and the one you are least likely to remember. The default 7 days is usually too short for a large annual charge — you may need to compare alternatives or wait for a refund window. Set those records to 14 or 30 days; see Choose how early you're reminded.
Changing the billing cycle does not change the next renewal date you already set. It only changes what happens *after* that date passes.
